We stayed at the Pinewood in January 2007 - overall the hotel was good and what you would expect from a 3 Star Hotel - the rooms were clean and well kept, the en-suite bathroom was excellent with a great shower and Jacuzzi bath. The hotel itself was also clean and tidy, and the staff were helpful enough and spoke good English. The main down point was the location - it was a bit 'out in the sticks', and although it was only a short walk (5 minutes approx.) to the Metro (which was only 6 stops or so from Spagna) the area between the hotel and the station was a bit on the rough side, and a lady on her own might perhaps feel a bit intimidated. Also, there wasn't any restaurants of note near the hotel - you are better off getting the Metro or a taxi ride (max 18 euro's to the historic City Centre).
Overall though, the hotel is a adequate enough holiday base - you do get more for your money when staying further from the centre, but when I return I think I will look opt for a more central location.
Enjoy your stay!
Me and my boyfriend recently stayed at the Pinewood Hotel for a four night break. Upon arrival we were kindly greeted by the woman at the hotel's front desk (in perfect English) and given the key to our room. Our room was spacious and very clean. Our comfy double bed and the bathrooms power shower and jacuzzi bath provided some welcome relief at the end of a busy day sight-seeing. The room was tidied and returned to prestine condition every morning with new sheets being laid and fresh towels provided. Breakfast is served from 7-10 a.m every morning and although it is continental it offers something for all tastes including cakes, cereal, yoghurt, bread, cheese and ham. At maximum, the nearest metro station is a 10 minute walk from the hotel and can get you to almost all of the cities top attractions easily: Trevi Fountain, The Vatican Museum, St Peters Square and Basilica, Spanish Steps, Colessium and Pantheon to name just a few. Buying a travel card for 16E allowed us unlimited use of the metro, tram and bus services for the duration of our 4 night stay. When venturing out of an evening, sit down restaurants were few and far between within the area surrounding the hotel, although the ones we managed to find provided both excellent service and food for a reasonable price. There are numerous take-away pizzarias offering alternative dining options and the hotel bar is available until midnight providing a wide selection of alcoholic beverages if one wishes to stay close to base. Overall Pinewood Hotel is an excellent place to stay if you are holidaying in Rome and we would happily return here.
We chose the Pinewood Hotel as we had found a good deal.
Although the Hotel is outside of the historical centre it not far from the metro 5 to 10 minutes walk and it’s a quick journey into the centre of Rome with the Vatican only a five minute ride away. The hotel is on a main road, fortunately the noise from the road was not a problem in the hotel, and in our room we could not hear it at all. The hotel is nice enough. We had a renovated room which was nice and a Jacuzzi bath. The room we had was spacious and very clean. Although their was building work going on this was during the day and I am confused how the previous reviewer was kept awake by the noise, there was little building activity before 9am.
We found the staff were helpful and friendly.
All in all the hotel was ok, It’s not a good looking hotel, but was more then adequate for our needs. The breakfast is the usual continental breakfast, rolls, croissants, cheese and meats etc. Coffee, tea and fresh juice was also available all buffet style. Everything looked fresh and was replenished as required. The hotel was 400 metres from a supermarket so you could easily stock up on drinks and snacks etc.
The downside to this hotel although the area outside seemed safe in the daytime I was not happy to walk about at night. This meant having to use the car to go and find somewhere to eat. There didn’t seem to be any restaurants or bars close by which you could easily walk to. The previous reviewer said it was a basic boring bargain. It depends on what you are looking for, all we wanted was a hotel we could use as a base to explore Rome historical sites. After spending all day sight seeing when we got back to the hotel all we wanted to do was shower get changed get something to eat and then bed. If you are looking for a romantic hotel or one with lots of amenities (swimming pool, gym etc) then this hotel is not for you.
Good place to stay but a bit out of the way since it's in the vatican area. Between the bus stop which is about 100 ft from the hotel and the subway you can get around without any problem. We would have preferred something more central. Newly renovated rooms are adequate and the continental breakfast is average for a light start. The staff was very friendly, helpful and spoke English. The area is a bit isolated when it comes to finding a restaurant, although there are a couple of them near the bus terminal, approx. 600 ft from the hotel. Overall a good hotel for the money.
