“A pleasant hotel”

My wife and I stayed for two nights in Room 310 at the Ateneo Garden Palace Hotel with Trafalgar Tours. It is located about 20 minutes walk from Termini train station. The room and bathroom exceeded our expectations because they were reasonably large (see photo), it appeared to be freshly renovated, and it overlooked the garden, so it was quiet and comfortable. We spoke with a couple who had a room across the hall who were not happy with the street noise. Air conditioning was available, but we preferred to leave the window open. We appreciated the availability of many electric outlets around the room because we often were charging two computers, a hand phone, and a digital camera all at once. We especially appreciated the free wireless Internet access in the lobby. The refrigerator in the room kept things cold, but they did not have a freezer in the hotel for our ice pack. So they kept the ice pack in ice and gave it to us on our departure. The few channels on the TV were all Italian language channels. The breakfast included cereal, ham, cheese, and yoghurt. There is a small neighborhood about a 5 minute walk away with a supermarket, a gelato store, and many restaurants. There is also a good pizza restaurant across the street. We have to estimate the value based on the TripAdvisor price because we don’t know how much the tour paid for our room. We were impressed with the facilities and with the service.

“Lovely Hotel in Rome”

We stayed in this little hotel for three days prior to a 12 night Eastern Mediterranean Cruise. It was a lovely hotel in a quiet Rome neighborhood. Walking distance to Termini Station, and not a bad walk to historic sites in Central Historic District. Close to ancient Rome city wall. It had lovely rooms, very nice bathrooms. Many rooms overlook central court, and have balconies with tables and chairs. There is free internet service and a computer to use in a nice large parlor/sitting room. Staff was very nice. Breakfast was served each morning in a very nice dining room, and was excellent. Our stay here was pleasant and comfortable, we'll choose to stay there again, and will tell others about it. We ate in a very nice restaurant directly across the street, the food and service was excellent. The Price of the Hotel was also quite reasonable at 151.00 euros a night double occupancy.

“Good spaces, but they just don't do things well”

Ateneo Garden Palace Hotel

May 12, 2008

The lobby and garden space is attractive and the room was basically clean and fine. But it looks like they had some MBA review how to save a few pennies. No tissues in room, and none available. Air conditioning not on despite warm weather, so sleeping with a door open to a public courtyard is the only way to keep cool. The tea really says it all. In late morning, it was looked like mud and tasted that way too. The day we left we got up early and the tea was pale and not even warm despite a flame underneath.. A peek inside the pot revealed the secret--a handfull of teabags tossed into unwarmed water, along with the strings and tags!

“Hotel high in contrasts, but not a four-star hotel!”

Ateneo Garden Palace Hotel

This hotel is high in contrasts... The people running the hotel during the day are nice and friendly but they don't have clue. Don't expect to obtain any reliable information from them. The guy in charge of the hotel during the night does not speak English, so much for a four-star international hotel.

Room: The room is spacious, the ceiling is high, the bed is good, the bathroom is clean.

Breakfast: Beside the cappucino, which is a superb, the breakfast is substandard and is served is some kind of a basement.

Amenities: They advertize Internet Access but the wifi was down the all time I was there, the one computer was crowded and didn't work all the times. Supposedly you can connect from your room but they have one cable for the entire hotel!

Overall, good for tourists fasting in the morning but don't expect to conduct any business there.

I made reservations for this hotel at their internet site and also arranged for a pickup at the airport to take us to the hotel. I confirmed our pickup before we left and was told where our driver would be with a sign with our name on it. We waited over an hour and he never showed. So, we were forced to hire a taxi at the last minute for 85 euros. Our pickup was to have been for 45 euros. We presented the taxi receipt at the front desk and he said he had nothing to do with internet arrangements. I wrote the internet site when we got home and they did not even respond to my two letters. I felt we were due some compensation for waiting an hour and paying so much.
The hotel room was fine and we knew the hotel was not centrally located. We were able to walk to the train station for the on and off again bus tour. We did this two days before our Insight Tour was to begin.
I would rate the hotel average and the front desk staff as poor.
If I go back to Rome I would look for a more centrally located hotel. I would also arrange a pickup with a private company.
