This hotel was very nice and the service was excellent. I stayed here during a choir tour of Italy and was at the hotel with a very big group. They gave us great service but one day we got lost on the way back to the hotel and it took us a very long time to find it again. However, I think that the short bus ride that it takes to get to the hotel is worth it if you are looking for a nice quiet place to stay. Also, if you get a chance make sure you go to Momart a bar down the street. They have a very large beer, wine, and cocktail list and they also serve great food and have an excellent atmosphere.

We enjoyed our night here. The hotel is clean and sparkling. It seems to cater to Americans - large TV in lobby, even screens in the elevator. The beds were comfortable, the air conditioning worked great, it was quiet. I don't think there was a pool. We did not eat there. It is a few miles from the historic area so walking is out. It is surrounded by other boxy 4-6 story hotels and apartments.

“Nice Hotel - except the location”

I stayed for 3 nights in November.
Rooms, cleanliness, breakfast, service is good.

Distance from the city center is a bit of a problem, Theres a shuttle service, (on time / ahead of time by 5 minutes ) which does compensate to certain extent. The shuttle service was closing from December for couple of months. Its a nice idea to check beforehand.

Options of eating out are limited in the area. Theres a nice italian restaurant close to the hotel (5 min walk), and a McDonalds (7 min)

If you are not a night-out person, prefer to stay in the hotel or just go for a quiet dinner the hotel is excellent for the price (I paid Euro 80).

I stayed there for a week mid-June 2004. The hotel was quite nice - it exceeded my expectation considering what I paid and that it was branded Mercure (as opposed to Grand Mercure or Novotel). The room was new, clean, and not too small (the hotel was recently refurbished). The staff there were friendly especially the ones at the bar and breakfast room. The buffet breakfast was also very nice (again considering what I paid).

The location of the hotel is probably not the best if you are looking to see the sights. (It was ok for me as I was there for a conference at the nearby university). The subway station is about a 15 minutes walk away, from which it is a 15 minutes ride to get to the Termini, and 25 minutes to get to the Trevi Fountain area. The hotel began offering a free shuttle service when I stayed. It takes you to the Colosseum as well as the Termini, which does compensate for its location, but DO NOT rely on it. It does not run by its timetable -- in the sense that the driver does not wait and leaves before it is scheduled to!! On a few occassions, I got to the pickup point 5-10 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time and later found that the shuttle had left early and I had to get a cab instead! I guess you can get there 20 minutes prior to its timetable departure time to make sure that you do get it. I made a compliant to the hotel manager, hopefully they have done something about it by now.

I was at Paris just before Rome. We paid about the same amount (150 euro/night) for the Paris hotel, but this Mercure is just so much better in every aspect.

With the exception of the shuttle serivce, I was very happy with the hotel.

The hotel is really very nice. However, it's not in the center of the city. You can't walk to any of the attractions. The subway stop is also quite far away (probably a 15-20 min walk). The bus is the best way to get around. It takes about 15 minutes by bus to get to the center of Rome (central train station).
