I won't be there again! the room of the last floor was awful. Avoid to book a room at the last floor! Is not for the four stars!
Warning: the noise, especially in the morning!

Stayed here with my girlfriend for 1 night on the back end of a break in Umbria.

Booked the hotel through an internet website but was charged an extra 10 Euros when checking out than the price we were originally quoted.

Breakfast is pretty good where there is a choice of bacon, scrambled egg and cold meats amongst other things.

The rooms are pretty small althought I liked the modern feel to them with the bathroom tucked away behind a sliding door. Although the door did get stuck once when my girfriend was in the bathroom which made her panic slightly.

The Vactican isnt as close to the hotel as it stated on the website. There is a Metro stop which is 5-10 mnutes walk away.
It takes about 5 minutes to get from the hotel to the street.

There is a nice little bar inside the Hotel which has a seating area outside. We had a coffee there but didnt ea , although we seen a couple of people having snacks like Burgers and Salad and it looked pretty good.

Overall not a bad hotel but not a great 4 Star.

We stayed here for 2 nights in June, 2006. This hotel is a beautiful old building, which was once a convent. The room was good - lovely old furniture (except the mattresses, which were good!) High ceilings, and windows which opened out onto greenery. Very clean. Lovely grounds for a morning or evening walk. A market within 1/2 a block.
Highly recommended by my husband and me.

I was assigned to this hotel for a week long stay by the AIM travel group as an attendee for a large medical conference in Rome. The property was beautiful, and the hotel was spotless. I found the property charming. My room was ready for early check-in as requested, and the bed was very comfortable. My only complaint was the very limited air conditioning. The room remained very stuffy and warm, with the thermostat limited at 19 degrees celsius. It felt much warmer. My room rate included the breakfast buffet. Breakfast starts at 7 AM, and is not available any earlier no matter what your plans may require. AIM told me that I would have free internet access. Not the case. It is 10 Euros per hour of use, and only available from one room near the lobby. I did have 3 evening meals in the hotel restaurant during my week long stay. The food was fantastic. The location was convenient to the A line Metro, only 2 stops to the Vatican and not far from the major sites in Rome. The hotel is located in a residential and commercial area, not a tourist area. There were many nearby stores, a few restaurants, and I had good meals at nearby Gustasando's and Josef's. I would definitely return to this hotel. Good value.

Group of 7 visiting Rome early June 2006 for first time. Easijet flights direct from Belfast, Bristol and Newcastle for our group brilliant approx £70 pp return- booked online in Jan 06. Booked a taxi transfer on line from Ciampino direct to hotel 35 Euros each way per taxi.We booked two taxis one for 3 and one for party of 4. So only 10-12 euros pp. Worth pre-booking as taxis can cost from 60+ euros. For those who are on a budjet- catch a Cortral bus service ourside Caimpino airport direct to main terminal station approx 1-2 Euros (approx 30 mins). Catch A line metro heading for "Anginina" get off at Cornelia. Daily tickets for metro dirt cheap we bought 3 day metro tickets for 11 euros each. Tickets bought at terminal or at any tobacconists/kiosks. When getting off metro try and exit Cornelia station keeping left at all escalators- we went up escalators to the right to exit the station on one return trip in Rome and ended up almost at next meto stop!! The Metro starts early in morning but closes at 9pm when a bus service stops at road level at each metro station and follows same jouney until after midnight. Your metro tickets cover cost of these buses.
Hotel Palazzo Carpegna is only 5-10 minute walk from Cornelia metro. Lovely hotel with nice gradens in front. Cool and relaxing quiet atmosphere with nice internal veranda for drinks and snacks. Thought the evening restaurant a bit pricey. We requested x4 adjacent rooms 3rd floor with views overlooking front of hotel. All rooms lovely twin beds smart cream/brown/black interior and furnishing-great air conditioning. Lovely lobby and rest areas with cool marbled floors.
Local restaurants 10 min walk from hotel 1. "Gastrosando" almost opposite to entrance of Cornelia Metro. Local Italian restaurant with back garden area- good food and friendly staff. Great peperoni pizza, choices of different pastas with sauces to mix and match, mixed meat grills, house wines - we went back twice and were made very welcome to watch the world cup on TV!! 2. "Josephs" round the corner from Gastrosando. Gorgeous meats- choose your own steaks and cuts of meat from the meat counter. Busy restaurant but great experience. We tried mixed brouchetas, fresh rocket salads, steaks all round, house wine and some great italian deserts. Little local sandwich and bar across the road and up to the right of the hotel right on busy road but what the hell we were drinking with the locals hic!!
Our Itinerary for Rome
Day1. Breakast 7-10am hotel. Up 9am away by 10am- walked to Cornelia metro- simple directions out hotel cross over road go right until mcDonalds at corner turn left metro entrance approx 300m ahead, picked up metro tickets in tobacconist just after McDonalds.
Head for metro diection of "Ottaviano" got off at "Staz termini"( about 7-8 stops say 15 mins). Outside terminal take your pick of hop on hop off tour buses. 13 Euros each. We did the complete 2 hr tour of the sights and stayed on until we go off outside the Collosuem. You could just spend the day getting on and off the bus as you like they run continually and you can get back on every 20-30 mins throughtout the day until about 7pm.Lunched in a pizzaria opposite Colloseum but take your pick of the many there!! paid for afternoon tour+guide complete with headphones and free photo with Roman centurian- giggles galour!!. beat a 45 min queue and get the most out of this fantastic attaction. Found an irish bar called Finnigans just up the road say 200m from metro station "Cavour" on B line. Boys needed to get in a world cup match!! -back to hotel for quick shower and change and ate locally at Gastrosando.
Day 2. Up early breakfast 7am metro by 8am got off at Vatican area( approx 4 stops 5-10 mins) to meet tour guide to see vatican museum the spectacular chapel and finishing off in St Peters Basilica. Long queues 2 hrs. Get lots of water supplies. You can go straight into St Peters Square and Basilica without paying or queues. We din't get to visit the tombs or the dome as there were further queues but next visit eh!! The bus tour stops just outside this area so if you didn't want to do the tour you could get off the bus and visit the vatican this way.Expensive souveneirs during tour bought much cheaper outside in nearby shops or market stands. Walking back to metro from Vatican area fairly good shopping area for clothes.
Quiet afternoon luch back at hotel few cooling beverages siesta and out to eat at Josephs.
Day3. Breakfast 8am- out early this time got off Metro at Spanish Steps. Boy did we walk!! Spainsh steps delightful lots of cafes and eateries. Little olde worlde tea shop right beside steps gorgeous and cool inside. On to Trevi Fountain to throw the coin over the shoulder!! great shoe/handbag stores at side of fountain & Silk Italian tie shop for 8 euros each. Fake designer bags on sale on stalls walk further way from the fountain and furthermost stalls have the best prices and barter like mad!! bought my two little daughters tiny Louis Vuitton shoulder bags for 8 euros each (cheap skate eh!!) Onto Via del Corso main shopping area main street with side streets running off both sides. designer shops to die for. Bought some lovely Italian glass and ceramics as gifts. Found stands with fake designer sunglasses/bags more gifts for the girls!! Great inside shopping mall on the main street. You could spend a day just shopping but the boys thought otherwise!! Onto Pantheon free admission ate in back streets here loads of hidden restaurants. We didn't have one bad meal. Next Piazza Venezia huge historical palace with open war museum up the steps. Gorgeous. Stopped for ice creams and drinks whenever the urge took us your'll be spoilt for chioce. Final stop Piazza Navona how to chill out with street entertainers whilst you sit out in one of the many bars/restaurants spilling out ont the square and people watch. There was a small jazz band on the go and they were brilliant. Home james!! we got back to the hotel drinks back at the veranda and ate locally again. It was busy but heaven. Watch your purses and wallet on the metro and terminal and at the airport. Like any big city you need to be careful. I had a bumbag and it was brilliant, hubby kept his wallet in front zipped pockets of his casual trousers. We did'nt have any nasty experiences but I did suspect a number of dodgy looking customers. Finally the departure lounge at Ciampino has quite a good selection of local foods and alchoholic beverages that can be bought for momentos, there was a good gift shop with bags, scarfs and italian jewellery at decent prices so you could get last minute goods if you don't have time. I hope this epic helps all you visiting Rome. Hotel Palazzo Carpegna is great value for the level of luxury you get but often we found we didnt want to travel back into Rome for the evening. having said that we found local restaurants and had only a short way to get back to our hotel. I guess if you were staying in Rome you would have restaurants at your doorstep. However we like to get about so where ever we were unless it was close to a metro travelling a distance is unavoidable. I could recommend the Hotel Portamaggiore accessible on the B line Metro as a cousin recently stayed there and had a great trip. I'm sure this can be found on the internet. It took me ages to research our trip and I didn't find it easy to get the recommendations I'm passing on to you but I wanted to put our experience into the forum and just say we would all go back tomorrow. have a great trip.
