I'm not surprised this hotel has received the number of positive reviews it has. If what you want is clean and comfortable accommodation within easy reach of the city centre then that's what you get here.
We had room 315 which was a decent size, simply but smartly furnished, with a very comfortable bed. My Partner's parents had 314, which was larger and had a balcony (honestly - I do the work, they get the balcony). The only thing I could quibble about was that for someone my size, 5'10'' and 13 stone, the shower cubicle was tiny.
Breakfast was fine, with a view over the rooftops, though I would say that if everyone in the hotel decided to have breakfast at the same time you might have a wait.
One thing I've not noticed on other reviews - the hotel is on the flight path to Ciampino, and though this isn't that noticeable in the bedrooms, in the rooftop breakfast room some of the aircraft do seem a bit 'close'
No bar but the restaurant attached to the hotel was very good. We also thought the restaurant in the next street - think it was called Principe - was also worth a shout if you didn't fancy going back into town in the evening. Few bars in the immeadiate area though we did find a slightly bizarre place called Il Bosco degli Elfi - the Elves Cave - at via Tuscolana 822. Also weird because it sold Tennants Lager.
The area around the hotel - ok, its not pretty but neither is it threatening - however, there isn't a great deal going on. You could go 2/3 stops out on the metro to Subaugusta where the area is more lively.
TIPS
1)If you get the chance, follow the hotels advice and go for a stroll around the 'Park of the Aqueducts' We spent a bright spring morning here with the joggers, the dog walkers, and these aqueducts. Very relaxing, with good views inland to the hills.
2)We prebooked tickets for the Colosseum via the official website which I reckon saved an hour's waiting in line. Print out your ticket, keep left after the security check and zoom straight to the reservations window.
3)Very impressed with the Centrale Montemartini museum - ancient statues in a modern(ish) power station.
