We stayed in this hotel for 5 days at the end of November and had a wonderful time. The hotel was spotlessly clean with a high standard of decor and furnishings. The staff were very polite, friendly and helpful and nothing was too much bother for them.
We ate in the hotel restaurant one of the evenings of out stay and were more than happy with the food and enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. The hotel is ideally situated for all the main attractions, designer shops and lovely little restaurants, all just a few minutes walk away. In fact during our stay we didn't use any form of transport as we felt every where was within easy walking distance. We would recommend this hotel without hesitation.

A classy little hotel with a great location for sight seeing. Check-in was easy with no language problem. The rooms are small-the bathrooms even smaller. If you are over 5ft 10 in.and 180lbs you may struggle in the bathroom for everything. The rooms are extremely well decorated and comfortable-bathroom excluded for comfortable. I recommend the king size option for more space unless you are short and thin:) The rooms were hot-temperature wise- not just our room but others complained also. Trying to get the phone to work or the temperature turned down was impossible- like Jamacia- no problem-no fix. The food for both breakfast and dinner was excellent. (Breakfast was included.) Try the dinner-very,very good-food and service. The bar is extrewmely cozy with a beatuiful sitting area. Drinks are 9E - yike!An after dinner drink is worth it however. This hotel is rated by some 3 star-don't believe it-a good 4. We were there 6 days so with every hotel nothings perfect. I'd stay again-and I hope will.

I thought the River Palace was a nice hotel. I didn't think it was a great hotel, but is was more than adequate. Bear in mind, we visited this hotel after staying at the wonderful Locanda Orseolo in Venice, which had raised the bar pretty high.
The breakfast was your standard hotel buffet fare--breads, pastries, cold meats, cereals, juices. I did notice that the table linens were dirty, as were the jackets the servers wore.
The rooms were smallish, but quiet. The linens were lovely. The rooms were clean and the ceilings in our room were painted with a cloud mural, which was nicely executed. The decor veered toward the Carmela Soprano-ish, but what the hey.
We booked thru last minute and got a good rate. I would probably try some other hotels on future trips to Rome, but would not mind staying here again.
The location is great--near the beautiful Borghese gardens, Piazza del Popolo, etc. Metro station is yards away, and there was a very decent casual restaurant right down the block.

Booked the River Palace through UK build your own holiday webpage and lucked out by being allocated the Villa Suite on the 8th floor - the only room with a balcony. What fantastic views of the Vatican to the right, the Pantheon and right down Via del Corso straight ahead. The Suite had a huge king size bed, a separate little lounge area and the bathroom had a huge jaccuzi bath - great except we couldn't get the bubbles to work - after repeatedly asking Reception to get it fixed. A minor problem because everything else was excellent and spotlessly clean. This little gem of a hotel is two minutes from the Flaminio Metro giving you access to all the sights although we managed to walk to most places from the hotel. Breakfast provided was full of all the usual buffet choices you could want and nicely presented in the little restaurant. We'd definitely recommend this hotel.

We arrived at the hotel well within the designated arrival time. We were told that the hotel had made a double booking and we would have to move to another hotel. We later learned that at least 3 other couples suffered the same problem and were moved to alternative hotels. The stress of moving on after a long initial journey was considerable especially as we had to move back to the River Palace hotel after 3 of the 5 days we were due to stay in Rome.
We were provided with an alternative hotel that had a better location but, obviously, the problem should not have arisen in the first place.

The hotel later offered to order us a taxi to take us to the railway station at a cost of E35. We ordered our own taxi at a cost of E16.
