This was a real find. On this 6 night trip in Rome I stayed three places, in three different areas. I moved due to the second stay being so awful, and I found this at the last minute! Wish I had stayed here the entire stay.

This quiet and elegant guesthouse is on the Vatican side of the river, which is a relatively quieter, more local area but with good restaurant and a lot of excellent shopping!

The front desk staff were kind and helpful as they called to make reservations and book taxis for me.

The room was large for a single traveller. I did have problems with the shower, but they were helpful in fixing it.

It is close to the Vatican and close-ish to the Musee de Arapacis, Piazza Nevona, but not that near to the Colosseum or the Spanish steps.

Do as I did and stay in another place for some of the trip nearer to other attractions as you get to see so much more!

The area between the Spanish steps and the main rail station Termini - is awful! Very busy with traffic, tourists and noisy. By comparison the Marta Guesthouse was a terrific place to stay.

“Don't drink the coffee”

Marta Guest House

May 11, 2008

This was an OK place to stay in Rome.
A friend of ours had recommended it.
But watch out for the coffee they serve
in the morning. On day we decided to
make a pot of our own, but the coffee
pot looked like it hadn't been cleaned
since classical Roman times!
I travel for a living and have never
seen anything as bad as that!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Marta. The room wasn't ready when we got there, but it was lunch time, we left the bags, had something to eat and came back. No problem at all. They offered to put the bags in our room if we wanted to go out all afternoon. The staff are polite and helpful, the room was clean and tidy. Yes the towels are unusual, but they are clean, look new and they do the job! The guesthouse is hidden away in a quiet and safe area. I can't tell you how handy the location is for everything!! As the previous poster said, save your money for things you want to enjoy on your holiday and don't pay double the price elsewhere (and you will need money as Rome ain't cheap). Round the corner are restaurants, bars, ice cream ATM's. A walk over the bridge and you are Navrona Square.Would definately use again.

We did not have a great experience at the Marta Guest House. When we got there, they didn't have our reservation on hand. They had to prepare the rooms after we got there. Then, they realized they didn't have the key to the room, so we had to switch rooms. The air conditioning didn't work, and when we complained, the guy called us spoiled for wanting air conditioning. Then after a lot of fuss, moved us to ANOTHER room. The beds are rock hard. The bathroom door was broken. And as for location, the area was dead. We had to walk a lot to find a lively area. I would not recommend this hotel.

“Great Guest House”

Marta Guest House

Stayed at Marta Guesthouse in Rome for 8 nights in mid August. Great location (most major sites are within walking distance). It is in a business building that is very quiet. There are 16 rooms. Nice size, full bathroom and clean. The only downfall for us were the hard beds. Staff were very nice especially Ovidio. As soon as we checked in, he handed us a detailed map of the city center and wrote all over it (buses to take, prices, walking distance in minutes). He was extremely helpful. There are restaurants, bars and cafes all around so you can get a quick breakfast and be on your way. We paid 95 euros a night but Ovidio said that we could pay 85 euros a night if we paid in cash.
