Family with one teenage child stayed in a triple ( superior ) room at San Carlo for 6 days - and loved it. The rooms, though slightly run-down, are fine and very, very clean. Although the location is right in the middle of Rome, it is absolutely quiet. Staff very kind and helpful.

We prepared for our trip to Rome for some months, consulting TripAdvisor and the standard guide books. Hotel San Carlo stood out and we had a totally delightful experience: when we return to Rome, we will try to book in this hotel. The location is excellent and the neighborhood was a delight. Our room was spotless and well cared-for. We had a giant tub that the two of us took much advantage of.

The staff was very helpful and we found that their restaurant recommendations were excellent. One of us had to make computer contact with the US. There was no wireless in the room, but it was free with a strong signal in the lobby. Morning cappucino in Rome and a MacBook Pro with a strong wireless signal: how could any day start out better?

As other reviews noted, there is no elevator in the hotel and our room was on the top (fourth) floor, so a bit of a hike. No real problem and the staff saw to it that our bags made it up and down in a timely manner.

We stayed here for three nights and very much enjoyed our stay. The reception staff were extremely friendly and helpful and made us welcome from the first moment we arrived, pointing out nearby sights on the map. Our room was on the 4th floor, and there was no elevator, but there was a baggage carrier there who carried all baggage up to upper floors.

The room itself was lovely, immaculately clean with high quality furnishings. We had a room with a private terrace which was an added bonus. The location is excellent, very close to the Spanish Steps and associated metro station. The area is known as the location for all the designer shops, so the streets around are relatively posh, and there are a number of good restaurants located nearby. We took advantage of the dry cleaning service here as we had been travelling through Italy for 2 weeks, and this service was excellent and very affordable.

To summarise, I would recommend this hotel due to its location, good value for money, amiable staff and high quality rooms.

I was so glad to see the the Hotel San Carlo featured on Trip Advisor! I stayed there last year and thought it was a perfect and quaint Roman inn. Although it's nothing too extravagent, it has great Italian charm, is very clean and classy, and has a great location! It's very near the Spanish Steps and we felt like we were in the hub of the city.

Definitely a winner if you're looking not to spend too much, but still want a lovely, worry-free hotel.
