This hotel is not nearly as good as people claim. I just checked in a few hours ago - my room is the tiniest I have ever seen, and I am an extremely frequent traveller. The hotel is a 20 minute bus ride from the center of town - no where near the city center. On this same trip, I have had far superior rooms in places like Istanbul, Bucharest, Prague, etc. Avoid this hotel!

Location: This is nowhere near the city centre as we would know it, a good 10 - 15 minute bus or taxi journey, walking it would be beyond anyone unless they were very fit, knew the routes and didnt mind dodging the traffic. Cost of taxi to centre, varied from 10 to 15 Euros depending on drop off. Nice neighbourhood, lots of local shops, restaurants etc, very safe feel and cheaper than town for dining and drinking. Bus stop about 5 minutes from Hotel, hassle getting in or out on buses unless again you know the routes etc.

Staff: Fair enough, neither off hand or rude, but could be more proactive.

Breakfast: Poor. No cooked food at all, small mixture of breads and smaller cereal and fruit selection. 1 sort of cheese, 2 sorts of ham, orange and water regularly ran out and took time to be refilled.

Rooms: We were in the double executive superior room, 504. Nice decor, good terrace, marble bathrooms, size average, not 2 bad i guess for Rome but the other rooms were much smaller on the lower floors.

Price: 172 euro per room per night, not worth it given location, could and should have got similar deal in a proper city centre hotel.

Hotel Transfer service: Dont do it. Our flight left at 11.05am, it is a 30 minute drive, the hotel arranged our transfer as part of the package and told us to be ready to leave at 9am. The driver didnt come until 930am, the 30 minute drive took 55 minutes as the driver took the scenic route to CIA airport and we made it to check in 10 minutes before the desk closed, far too tight and made us very nervous as at one stage i thought we were never going to get there on time.

Overall the transfer farce at the end made me reduce the rating, but i still on reflection wish i had gone for a more central venue. There is nothing particularly special in the hotel or price to make you stay here and i wont be back and if you do go back yourself, arrange your own transfers, the hotel one nearly cost us an extra day!!!!

Booked this hotel based on previous reviews. Was disappointed on arrival. It is important to remember that this hotel is a 3 star hotel. Reviews to date would give you an expectation of more! It is a little shabby and the 3rd floor where we stayed is definitely in need of a makeover. The room was a good size (superior double) but the bath was unusable - old and stained.
On the plus side breakfast is very good and the hotel is clean. The staff are very helpful and pleasant. It is a little off the beaten track but there are plenty of buses and a taxi ride into the centre averages about €8.
So in a nutshell - not bad but not fantastic. You could probably do better for the same price nearer the centre.

Hi,
I am shocked in reading so positive reviews on the Panama Garden Hotel in Rome! I have been there on june 2005 for two nights. Apparently, the first impression was good enough and acceptable, except a not very professional receptionist I talked with.
Well, I went in my room accompanied from one person of the reception. They had some problems with the key that did not succeed to open the door, but this was not a problem. Once in my room, the first impression was good enough, but I could very soon see that the green fitted carpet was PLENTY of white hairs and powder. Terrible! Terrible! I found a pair of hairs also in the bathroom and under the beadspread!!!
But perhaps the most terrible thing was that I asked gently to the receptionist to make to pass the vacuum cleaner on the moquette ufficially "because I am allergic to the powder" and another hotel employee that listened to my demand and that was not a receptionist behind the desk took part and told me with an extremely disagreeable tone that "in the hotel the vacumm cleaner is passed every day". Well, while I made present that if I had made one demand it was because I knew what I said, the result was that finally I had the hairs of someone on the floor for all the duration of my stay.
The hotel gives a good impression when you arrive, I had a first good impression too, but then I had one of my most terrible experience in a hotel in Rome, expecially for the professionality and the hygiene lack.

We stayed five nights in this nicely situated and friendly hotel. One feels free-as at home- calm and quiet. The Ada parc is opposit the hotel. We had a beautiful room with a large terrace and a view on a renaissance palace.
Every evening ,Signor Francesco guided us to perfect and typical Italian restaurants in the neighbourhood. We thank the staff for their help in hundreds of things.Arivederci Panama Gardens.Hasselt,Belgium.
