“Well worth paying extra for”

Just returned from a 5 night stay at this hotel, which I booked on the recommedations from the reviews on this site. After reading reviews about a number of hotels in Rome we could only find this one, which was a bit more than we wanted to pay, that could give us what we wanted. We weren't dissapointed, the staff are very friendly and attentive. The room was gorgous, large and very clean. Breakfast is well worth having as there is a selection of hot and cold dishes to choose from. The sheets and pillow cases are made from linen which creases very easily, but each night when we returned to the hotel it looked like the bed linen was changed daily. A good night verse and a chocolate each added the finshing touch. We were talking to another couple at the airport who had had a dreadful time at their hotel, with stained bed covers and paper thin walls which made it very noisey so we were very pleased we'd paid the extra and had comfort.
I e-mailed the hotel before and asked for a smoking room on a high floor and they e-mailed back within 48hrs to confirm my request.
A note for the ladies the toiletries don't contain a body lotion so remember to take your own.

“Fantastic all round and worth the extra money”

Spent alot of time trying to choose a good hotel to take my husband to for a long weekend, wanted good price, central location, spacious room and good hotel facilities. All this and more at the Sofitel. The package with flights was about £150 more for us to stay here than a 5* hotel but it was highly commended on all fronts. The hotel made arrangements in advance for a car at the airport and champagne breakfast in the room, the normal breakfast was the best I have ever had in Europe, the hotel was quiet at night and in the morning with limimted traffic noise, the room was massive for europe with a very substantial bed, great shower and bathroom and the rooms were nicely and tastefully decorated. There is a nice bar and restaurant in the hotel - abit pricey - but then for a nightcap its no problem. We walked everywhere from the hotel, Collusseum, Vatican, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, but taxis are not expensive either. Tried lots of restaurants in the centr, but the ones near the hotel are actually really good if you eat on side streets around Via Veneto. Would definitely book there again.

Very good hotel in an excellent location.

Staff very friendly and attentive, clearly a result of a dedicated effort by the general management. Overall sparkling clean, without being "clinical". Bathrooms excellent with "Roger Gallet" products.Rooms spacious and extremely quiet (at least mine).
(Bed-linens are not that scratchy: they are made , precisely, in linen, which is a material more costly and even more healthy than cotton ).

Beautiful breakfast with prosciutto crudo sliced on the spot.

Two or three PROBLEMS.
Room-service hours , for hot dishes,are way too short : from 19:30 to 22:30.
I was sold a three-bed room , but one was actually a rather uncomfortable chaise-longue, which my senior relative did not appreciate too much (I know, I should have used it...).
My bed was creaking (revenge by the senior relative ?).

Very good place overall.

Being a Sofitel fan, I reserved this hotel without reservation for our trip to Rome in September 2006. Long before our arrival, I have corresponded to the hotel directly to ensure that 2 non-smoking rooms on high floor and are close to each others are confirmed. They have always responded in a timely manner to every question I had.
Here are a few points about the hotel:
1. LOCATION: Within short walking distance to Spanish Steps, Via Condotti, many restaurants (both expensive and inexpensive), many shops, subway...but on a quiet residential street.
2. CLEANINESS: THE BEST REASON FOR STAYING HERE. Spotless clean room, bathroom, crisp (I would disagree if someone called this hard or scratchy) sheets (a sure sign that a clean and pressed sheet was changed-some 4 stars hotel do not change the sheets often). I was shocked that the bathroom doesn't have the urine smell like some other hotels (4 and 5 stars) that I have stayed at in Europe)
3. SIZE: Nice/comfortable size of bed and bathroom for Rome.
4. DECOR: As always, the lobby and rooms are tastefully, artistically decorated with marble and paintings.
5. SERVICE: They never cease to amaze me with the attentive service: from calling taxi to handling your luggage, to the room orientation tour, to giving direction and making reservation. The front desk staff speak 3,4 languages.
6. BREAKFAST BUFFET (try to book the room with breakfast): Quite generous in selection (yogurt, fruits, cold meat such as ham and turkey, boiled egg, scamble egg, sausage, bread/croissant, juices, cereal, cheese...). The breakfast area are nice and cozy. The staff are extremely attentive without demanding tips (in fact, most people do not leave tips)
OVERALL: I am amazingly surprised that this Sofitel is not on the list of 4 stars hotel in Rome although the price is of a 4 stars hotel. It is truly a hidden treasure. In fact, I truly think that it deserves a 5 stars.

“Loved it!”

My husband and I stayed at the Sofitel for three nights during our honeymoon to Italy. You can't beat the location, walking distance to both the Spanish Steps as well as lots of nice cafes and restaurants, but at the same time it's located in a quiet spot so you're away from the crowds. The room was beautiful, and the bathroom was total luxury. I have to agree with the post below about the sheets, I definitely noticed that they were on the rough side, but we didn't mind it too much.

All in all it was a magnificent trip and we would do it again. We LOVED the Sofitel!
