The hotel location is good. Its a couple of blocks from the Colosseum, and from there you can get the Metro. If you arrive at the sametime w/ a tour, good luck!. It might have been that they were just so busy that they gave me a key to someone's room, but we worked things out. The rooms are small, and have tha "old" feel, and the smell of cigarrets is present.

My mother and 2 sisters stayed a week, we had 2 rooms, we were in the right side of the hotel in the front corner second floor room, it was small, 2 small single beds pushed together, but it was clean and they came and serviced it each day. there was a big pillar in the corner, middle of the room, 1 foot in diameter, shower was small but good hot water,
food was good, the pastries were wonderful, the eggs were a little weird, lots of weird meat. The left side 2nd floor room was my moms and was the same except she got a view of the colloseum out her window. we asked for adjoining rooms but the most they had was across the hall from each other.
overall, given everything I would stay there again because its price was reasona ble but if iwere to go and money was no object I would pick a more luxurios Hotel. Capri was the best, florence shopping was good, good leather but expensive, all tours were great but wear good I mean good shoes, and get in shape before you go or you will have swollen ankles like we did.....

Stayed at this hotel end of April and was slightly disappointed! I'd say hotel is not 4 star more like a 3 star, breakfast probably worst aspect no variety same everyday - scrambled egg, spicy sausages, chilli and cereal cold meat etc.
One of the attractions to us before booking this hotel was the view of the colosseum from pool bar area but this floor was closed so i'd advise you check prior to booking.
The location wasn't bad near to the colosseum but a 20/30 min walk to spanish steps and the other main attractions.
A few times we came back to the hotel to have a drink in the bar(daytime) but no1 serving again brochure stated opening times 11am-midnight.
Good points were cleanliness and pleasant staff. If you can afford it the Marriott hotel looked lovely and was in prime location. DONT FORGET good walking shoes as best way to see sights is by walking, be careful of traffic roads manic like LONDON!!!!!!!!!!
Enjoy

Set your expectations and you won't be disappointed. This is a terrific hotel for the price, in one of the best locations in the city. Minutes from the Coliseum, I visited there every day, such a wonderful place with so much activity. There is also a Metro station there, one change at Termini and you are at the Vatican. It couldn't be easier. Small? Yes - the room is small. But so are most hotel rooms (and living quarters!!) in Europe. No wonder most of them are outside in cafes and piazzas. You should be, too. You aren't travelling to Rome to spend time in your hotel room. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable, hairdryer (one of those attached to the wall) and safe, as well as mini bar. The gentlemen at the front desk were quite helpful with all of my questions. Only thing I would ask for is better air conditioning. I'd certainly use this hotel again, but if you are looking for a luxurious experience, with bellmen, and a concierge, you might look elsewhere.

I stayed in this hotel for 8 nights - part work/ part holiday. The first night I was given a small, dark, musty room with a queen size bed which was really 2 smaller beds put together with a noticeable joiner going down the middle of the bed. The room was so small that I thought I was given a room that had some shared community bathroom out in the hall, but it turned out the bathroom was the size of a closet. I've never seen a shower with a trifold sliding door but that was the only way to fit this shower in this small bathroom. I'm 5'1" and very petite, and even I had trouble showering in the tiny shower in this bathroom without constantly hitting my elbows on the wall. The shower head was old and had mildew damage on the head - and smelled it too. The carpet looked dirty and spotted - there was also an area that had an iron burn on it. Looking out the window I could see the adjacent park and all of the fire escapes of the hotel - it was a very gloomy, jail like view. The worst part was that the room's heater was not working, and as they had no more non-smoking rooms that night, they could not move me. With 30 degree weather outside, and being pregnant I had to bundle up to go to bed that night. Breakfast every day at this hotel was pretty much the same - the usual continental selection with some hot selections - scrambled eggs, fried eggs, soggy bacon, and little sausages. Nothing very tasty but was edible. The internet access they advertise on their hotel description is actually no longer available - they have signs at all the computers stating that due to new anti-terrorism laws that the free internet access was no longer avaiable. The paid Vodafon wifi access in the area is very weak and drops frequently. The rooftop with the view that's advertised is not accessible except in the summer months. The room that I was switched to was a much better room - it was a real queen - not two beds pushed together. And the bathroom was of reasonable size with a shower/tub - no musty issues in that room. Good view of the collosseum. If I had been given this room from the beginning I would have rated this place a little higher - though even in the hallways of the hotel, the carpet is noticeably spotty and as another reviewer had put it - the walls are like cardboard and you can hear all of your neighbors and hallway noise - bring ear plugs. This place gives the bare minimum that you would expect at a motel in the U.S. - no concierge (reception can't even recommend a restuarant in the neighborhood), luggage assistance or hotel restaurant - just a place to sleep which hopefully if you're lucky - you get one of the decent rooms that they have. We walked to all the major areas of Rome from here - 2 minutes to the Colloseum; 5 to the Capitoleo; a brisk 15 minute walk to Pantheon; 30 minutes to the Vatican.
