The staff were the most unhelpful people i have encountered, they went out of there way to make life difficult. The cooked breakfast was cold even at 0700hrs in the morning and the decor was depressing. The location was ideal for sightseeing.
Hotel staff is nice. Location is convenient but noisy. Construction was going on during my visit in May 2004 so that may have made it worse than usual.
The traffic on busy Via Cavour can be disturbing if you're sensitive to noise, but otherwise this hotel is a decent option. Nothing will amaze, but nothing is bad either. The location isn't the absolute best available, but it is still pretty good, with Termini close-by and you can walk to the majority of attractions within 20 minutes or so.
I stayed at the Genova in February 2004. I was traveling alone and was glad the hotel was centrally located to the termini and alot of the important monuments and site-seeing areas. There was a good variety of cuisine as well. The rooms were clean, but in need of redecorating [somewhat depressing atmosphere, but I really didn't spend alot of time in mine], the breakfast was boring after the first morning, and the hotel staff wasn't very helpful, but all in all, this hotel got the job done.
