This hotel is located a few blocks north of Termini on Via Vicenza which is about 10 minutes walking distance of where the Terravision Ryanair bus drops off and picks up for Ciampino airport. The area around the hotel seems quiet and pretty safe. Around the corner from the hotel is a Rome subway stop (Castro Pretorio). For traveling around Rome, this hotel is well situated. The Castro Pretorio stop is on the same line as the Colosseum stop and for other sights you can change trains at Termini.

The elevator is small and the three of us were able to squeeze in with 2 rolling luggage. The room was large, comfortably fitting a double bed and a single bed. There was no carpeting on the floor and the bathroom was roomy and clean and stocked with complimentary toileteries. The room has double glazed windows that effectively shuts out all noise from the streets. We were on the 5th floor.

Breakfast (included in the room rate) was a wonderful buffet of hot and cold items, like fresh fruit, Italian pastries, egg dishes, yogurt and served in a small dining room.

The staff was efficient though not overly friendly. There are some restaurants and pizzerias in the area and also a convenience store. Overall, a good hotel and would stay there again.

“Good Option”

Best Western Hotel Canada

We just came back from spending a weekend in Rome and stayed at hotel Canada.

The hotel was very nice for the price, but I disagree with other reviews regarding the room size as our room (#518) was quite small, although enough for us as we were just there for 2 nights and did not have much luggage.

Breakfast was excellent. We did not eat much as we wanted to save space for a good italian lunch, but certainly you can eat enough to keep you going until dinner.

Waiters were very nice, but the people in the reception desk were not that nice at all, specially the man in the morning. He does not seem to like to give information, talk to guests or take any effort to make your stay nicer.

Beds are inedeed a bit hard.

The bar area is very home-like, very nice and drinks very reasonable priced. We spent there several hours as we had to take an evening flight and thought it was really nice.

Regarding the situation, it is a bit out of the way of the main cultural sites, but on the other hand is very convenient as you are 5 minutes away from the station where you can take a train wich takes you to the airport in 30 minutes, subway and buses to every touristic site. If you feel like walking you can also do it, as we did and even got blisters from all the walking we did.

In all, we think it was a very good hotel choice.

This is an excellent hotel. Stayed withhusband and two teenagers. Great room with double bed for us and two singles just off the room for the guys. The breakfast is excellent with a wide range of choices. Best of all the bar prices are very good indeed and the free selection of hors d'oeuvres is most welcome. They do great hot chocolate. The staff were very helpful and we all enjoyed it. There are also some nice restaurants nearby and it is a short walk from termini. Highly recommended.

The reviews are right on. Number one complaint was hard beds. If they upgraded them it would be almost perfecto! A bottle of wine in the lounge 7.5 Euros and good I may add. Very appetizing hors d'oeuvres with nice presentation on pretty china. Massimo one of the waiters so accomodating and humble-he lives near Greve. Can't say as much for waiters or the food in the nearby eateries. We asked the front desk for a restaurant reccomendation and walked down a few blocks to Aggrapola D'Oro. Very overpriced, the waiter spoke hardly any English (not his fault) and waited 40 min for a check after asking a few times. Most of the restaurants have the same menu in this area. The Bistro was good as well as Rossi 3 . Don't bother with Gemma alla Lupe. We were seated next to the WC unknowingly at first. The waiter brought drinks and we moved to another table 10 feet away without using any napkins or tableware. Well, the waiter went on about the cost his boss would suffer for laundering the napkins which we pointed out we didn't use all to no avail.

One morning I asked the desk to call a taxi. We had a reserved time for the Vatican tour. He tried a few times and said to me they are all busy. No other explanation. I guess that meant walking to the train station so off we went and found the buses were on strike. Huge long lines for taxis. Needless to say we missed the Vatican tour. I am a seasoned traveler working for an airline and hadn't been to Rome in 35 years so the inconsistent level of customer service and general indifference was eye opening. However, take what you need and leave the rest is a good attitude to have. And don't hesitate to stay at the Hotel Canada!

A little out of the way, although a ten minute walk from the Termini train station. Clean and comfortable, with free cocktail hour hors d'oeuvres and extremely helpful front desk staff.

Room was large, bed comfortable, bathroom more than adequate.

This is, without a doubt, the best-kept secret in Rome. And I'm serious... don't tell anybody, because I want to go back, and I don't want it to be sold out or have the prices rise!!!
