We stayed at the Hotel Lancelot for 7 nights in Oct 2007. There were 4 of us incl 15 and 16 yr old sons. We had a quad room with a terrace.
It would be hard to find fault with the Hotel Lancelot. We emailed them about 10 times requesting clarification to the reservation, help with booking activities, etc., and each email was answered promptly, accurately and courteously. On arrival and during our stay, all the staff were equally pleasant and helpful.
One example, the hotel helped us book an afternoon of horseback riding on the Appian Way. When we left Lorena was at the front desk and made sure we had the address, called taxi, etc. On the way back we had to walk the last mile to the hotel (due to a political demonstration) and we ran into Lorena walking home, She asked how we enjoyed the afternoon, etc. When we got back to the hotel, AnnaLisi was at the desk (just started her shift) and as soon as we walked in she asked us how the horseback riding was as well. Rarely do you find engaged employees like that.
We would echo most of the comments in the other reviews, so I wont repeat them all here, just make some select observations.
Our room was on the street side, and although some say the street noise is not noticeable, it really is. For light sleepers, this could be an issue, but earplugs easily fix any noise issue.
We ate dinner at the hotel each night. Excellent food prepared by a creative chef. First course is pasta, main course was usually meat (fish on Friday) and two vegetables, and a different dessert. Wine and water served with dinner. If someone in your group is having a birthday, it is noted by the Hotel and a birthday cake, champagne, etc is added to the dessert. A nice touch.
As others have noted, many places to eat in easy walking distances. One option that worked well for us at lunch was to walk down a block towards the Coloseo and get sandwiches at a corner store (fresh bread and rolls) along with various side items (cookies, chips, olives, cheeses, etc). All fresh and we all ate for 10 euros.
The Hotel is everything the other reviewers have said and more. I honestly dont know why you would voluntarily pay more (like double) for other hotels in Rome.
