We stayed in this hotel on the last night of our Italian holiday because of the recommendations on this web site - we weren't disappointed.

As it was going to be our last night in Italy we wanted a nice/posh hotel that wasn't too expensive, it had to have a roof terrace for drinks in the evening and a great location. We got all that (even though we didn't get to use the roof terrace that night due to an amazing electrical storm)

Luckily for us we were given room 204 - the room at the front of the hotel with the balcony - what a view. We were able to stand on the balcony and take in the sights below - great place to people watch with a great view of the Panetheon.

The room itself was spacious and clean and the bathroom was well stocked with toiletries, a powerful shower and good mirrors.

Breakfast was a standard continental breakfast, nothing out of the ordinary.

The staff were extremley pleasant, friendly and helpful without being over bearing.

“NOT My First Choice”

Albergo del Senato

Our first time in Italy, and Albergo del Senato was a last minute hurried decision after Expedia messed up our reservation (after sending us a "confirmed" notification! - we found out on our own from the hotel 2 DAYS BEFORE our departure that they had no such reservation at all! Make sure you check because Expedia's confirmation is NOT a guarantee!

Our first day arrival could not have gone worse...bad dishonest taxi driver from the Rome airport -BEWARE, they WILL cheat you! So count your money into their hand. He didn't even drop us off in front of the hotel, so we had to lug our suitcases around the cobblestoned alleys to find the Pantheon (several conflicting directions from Italians in the area), and FINALLY arrived at del Senato, dying in the heat and needing rest badly.

We mostly (hastily) chose it for its location, but I was misled by the rave reviews for this hotel... There was a dead cockroach by the couch in the lobby. No bellman at the door to help us with our luggage. The front desk guy Salvatore barely welcomed us and called for a porter but by then we had gotten our bags ourselves to the elevator. My exhausted heart fell when the elevator opened - it was TINY!! about the size of a phonebooth! The two of us couldn't even fit with our luggage (and we are petite girls), so we had to make 2 trips. We got off the elevator and dragged our luggage some more up a series of 2-3 steps before we finally got to our small room. BEWARE OF ROOM 112, the view of the balcony is horrible - after looking once we locked it, kept the curtains drawn and never opened them again. you step right out into a dark back alley in which anyone could just climb right up into your room. The walls are PAPER THIN! The door of the next room is literally 2 inches from your door and everytime someone opened and closed (slammed) their door it was loud as if they were trying to come into your room. We could hear EVERYTHING, including every word of our neighbor SINGING while we tried to rest and everyone passing in the hall. But the worst was over, the twin beds were firm and comfy. The bath was clean, although hot water came and went, the water pressure was good. Breakfast was great actually, and another front desk man was very courteous and helped us get a taxi cab when we left - we were so worried about the thin walls keeping us up for our week long stay, that we changed hotels the next day. Also, the rooftop terrace is overrated. I would say it has the feel of a B&B. If you're on a budget and only staying for a few days, it's ok if you don't mind hearing your neighbor.

“Perfect Location!”

Based on reviews on TA, I booked two rooms at the Albergo Del Senato for my husband and I and another couple with whom we were traveling. It was our last hotel of a 3 week trip, and it was perfect in many ways.

First, we got a great deal through hotels - 130 euros per night. I was afraid that for this price we would be tucked away in the bowels of the building. But instead, we got rooms on the 3rd floor (305 and 306, I believe) - looking directly out onto the Pantheon.

The staff was great - they were happy to give us information on restaurants off the beaten path....at whatever price range we were interested in.

The rooms were pretty good sized -- and the beds were very comfortable. CNN was available...so we could ease into getting the news prior to our return to the US. Bathroom very nice - great shower. Air-conditioning worked great.

The breakfast buffet was excellent -- meats, eggs, fresh fruit, breads, pastries...everything you could want. Having gotten used to very strong coffee in other parts of Italy, the coffee here seemed a bit weak...but a very minor complaint considering everything else. The breakfast room was very comfortable.

Location is the best. As noted above, the Pantheon is almost touchable from your window. Getting up early in the morning, it was great to go out in the square and poke around the exterior of the Pantheon with no one else in sight! Most of the major sights are within walking distance.

Unfortunately, it was raining the evening we had hoped to use the rooftop bar...but I suspect the views would be extraordinary. A perfect place to recap your day while sipping an ice cold limoncello!

From our experience, you can't go wrong with this hotel. We will be sure to return on our next trip to Rome!

Stayed here with my family of four (two teenaged girls). Had two adjoining rooms. Location, staff, and room couldn't be better. Very clean and modern.

All other great reviews in this forum are 100% accurate (discovered the hotel on TripAdvisor).

We'll stay here again when in Rome!! Worth every penny.

“perfect location and view”

Albergo del Senato

Smallish rooms on a perfect square with a perfect view. Great value in comparison to other hotels nearby. Try to get rooms 603, 604, or 605 which have stunning view and balcony. Room is very quiet once the double pained french doors are closed. Nice bathroom amenities, better breakfast than other places we stayed on our trip. Restaurant suggestions were great. Would definately book again.
