Can only add to most of the comments that tell you this is really a great location to be in. Much seems to be made of having a room with a view of the Pantheon. We didn't have this view but spent very little time in our room after all we were here to explore Rome and you can see the Pantheon every time you step outside the hotel. The room was small but adequate and very clean. The only thing I would say is that the maids can be quite noisy in the mornings and guests leaving to catch early morning flights while we were there were also quite inconsiderate although this is of course no fault of the hotel. We actually had to bang on the wall at about 2 a.m. one day in order to get the room next door to turn the TV down! There is no noise from outside the hotel to particularly disturb you though. Breakfast at the hotel was fine.

The hotel can recommend some good restaurants for you to eat in. It is, however, very expensive to eat out in Rome. Try to avoid eating on the main piazzas and take a wander down the side streets. Have a look at the menu and stay away from anywhere that advertises a special tourist menu or who charge more than around 5-6 Euros for a basic pizza.

Don't leave without visiting the Vatican but be prepared for massive queues. Best to get a guided tour arranged from the hotel if you can as they are allowed in slightly early. We took our chances and queued with a guide for 2 hours! It was absolutely worth it though.

Suggest you get the hotel to arrange transport to and from the airport. We got a taxi to the hotel which was a nightmare and cost more. The hotel arranged our journey back and it was by far the better and cheaper option.

The hotel is in walking distance of many of the sites you will want to see. Hope you have fun!

We checked into the Senato after a disappointing stay at the Naples Excelsior. We booked a Junior Suite and were given Room 215 (on the third floor in the US) which is on the right corner of the hotel closest to the Pantheon. Being on the corner meant we had three windows in the suite. Since the weather was so nice, we opened all three during the day and it was wonderful.

The room was beautiful with fabric walls, wood floors, high decorative ceilings and comfortable furniture. The room and the hotel are meticulously clean and very well maintained The layout of the suite had one room which was a nice entry/dressing room area with a small couch, a great marble bath and the beds in the main room. The views of the piazza and the Pantheon were outstanding. The roof bar (manned by Michele) was open and we had pre-dinner cocktails up there several times. The breakfast was very good, especially the scrambled eggs. All of the staff were fantastic, especially Mauro at the desk.

The only minor problem we encountered was with the AC/Heat controls. Apparently, there is a cut-off if the windows are opened (a very good idea), but when the windows are closed, it appears that the thermostat in the room does not work and the system is either on or off as directed by the front desk. There is a card in the room which says the temperature can be controlled by the thermostat, but ours just flashed weirdly during our stay. The engineer who initially came to the room told us the system was controlled from the front desk. It did get a little chilly on one night, but we were too exhausted from running all over Rome to involve the desk. Not a big problem, but maybe those cards should be pulled from the rooms and a better explanation of the system given to the guests.

Aside from all the great qualities of the Senato mentioned in other reviews (all true, too), we found the best thing to be the perfect location. A few blocks to the west is the Piazza Navone. To the south, the Forum, Largo Argentina and the Piazza Campo Fiore. The Corso and the Fontana di Trevi are a few blocks to the east. Finally, to the north, is the Altar of Peace, Piazza del Popolo and the Spanish Steps. And there are great places to eat everywhere. We walked all over the place. I have got to go back to Rome, and when I do, I will definately stay at the Albergo del Senato! A wonderful hotel in a wonderful location!

BTW, every restaurant at which we ate was very good, except for an unfortunate experience at Fortunato right up the street. (sorry, Rick Steves!) The waiter just disappeared toward the end of the meal and no matter how many times we asked, we could not get a check. We finally walked up to the register after about 20 minuites and got the check along with the only attitude we ever saw in Rome. A bad ending for a otherwise OK meal.

Yes, this is a very good hotel in a wonderful location in Rome.
We had a 2 bedroom suite on the 6th floor (601 I think) with a terrace and gorgeous view of the Pantheon. I was a bit nervous about a previous comment regarding the size of the suite as we had our two boys aged 7 and 12 with us but I need not have worried. It was ideal. We had the fruit basket (but unfortunately no champagne for my 50th birthday - even though I had told them!!). It was quiet and we found the breakfast to be typical of hotels in Rome - we have stayed in many hotels in Rome and this ranks highly.

We only stayed 2 nights from the 6 - 8 September and would have gladly stayed longer. However, it is fairly expensive at over Au$1,200 per night.

I am sure we would consider staying here again.

A superb hotel in a location right opposite the Pantheon - my wife and I had a room overlooking the historic building. There must be approx 30 rooms that do overlook the Square and Pantheon. All the major sites are within walking distance from the hotel and we used it as a base to re-charge before heading off to dine in the numerous streetside bars and restaurants nearby.

The staff are very friendly and helpful. The guy's on reception speak very good English and have a fine sense of humour. The hotel is elegant, tastefully decorated and very comfortable. We took their advice and used the hotel car service to the airport which is slightly cheaper than a taxi and the cars are shiny Mercedes or Lancia's - driver also acted as a tour guide en route!!

The rooms are spotless, with Sky satellite TV, a flat screen TV, lovely fruit (on arrival) and powerful showers. The beds are firm and encourage a good night's sleep.

As one reviewer has said the barman on the rooftop bar (good views of Rome) is a gem. We were struggling to get a good photo at sunset but he took the camera and a chair and took some great pictures for us. All part of the service we were told!

This hotel deserves more than 3 stars but may be doesn't get them because there is no restaurant other than for serving breakfast which may not be the best but is equal to most European hotel continental standards and is included in the room rate. We will definitely go back if we are lucky enough to find ourselves back in Rome again and would highly recommend it.

This is the perfect place to stay in Rome, with a georgious view of the Pantheon if your room faces the charming piazza, or from the roof terrace. Step outside and you are in the middle of historical Rome, with narrow streets branching off in all directions, most of them pedestrian zones and lined with shops and restaurants. The hotel itself is elegant and spotless, with an efficient and friendly staff. If you are willing to pay the above average rates, justified by the location and the hotel features, you will not be disappointed.
