We are Hilton Gold members and used points for two nights' and paid (320 e) for two additional nights.

Made the mistake of requesting a pick up from the hotel (105 e). It was an SUV and driver spoke no English. We later learned that a cab would have cost about 35 e).

Arrived at 7:30, and desk clerk, including supervisor, refused to honor our gold status stating that the executive floor was reserved for diamond members only. After about l0 minutes, where I adamately insisted that this was against Hilton policy, they agreed to give us the executive lounge access, but not a room update. They acted as if they were really doing us a favor. It was really embarrassing because there were other people trying to register and we were made to feel like bag people. Keep in mind that we were smartly dressed, worldly-traveled, mature adults.

Of course, the room was not available, (I think they said there was no room available for spite) so we went into town on the shuttle and returned at 4 p m. The room was lovely, but there was no air conditioning, although we complained about it every day.

The lounge was exceptional--one of the best we've ever been in. We had breakfast there every morning and visited it at different times during the day, but we ate dinner every night out.

The shuttle stops running at 7:30, so it's of no use if someone wants to eat in town. We ended up taking cabs back and forth--a costly experience.

We found the staff to be unfriendly. I was especially annoyed at the door men. There were always two or three of them at the door talking and laughting, but never once did they open the door for us, or open the door for us when we got out of the cab. Of course, when they got a cab for us they opened the door with their hand out for a tip.

We've stayed at Hilton Hotels throughout the world. And we selected this hotel partly because it is part of the Hilton chain and also because of the many glowing comments we read on this site.

Sadly this was an anniversary celebration that began on a sour note and whenever we rememberRome we'll recall this poor experience.

Just returned from a 3 night stay at the Hilton Cavalieri. I had informed them on the booking that it was our wedding anniversary and got not only an upgrade to a suite, but free champagne (actually sparkling wine) and chocolates and a personalised card from the manager. The rooms are superb, although we didn't look out over the garden, but the radio mast at the front of the hotel, so didn't have a view of the city. Reception staff were very friendly, but the bar service was slow even when they weren't busy.
It is possible to walk from the hotel into Rome, but the hotel is on a hill so, walking shoes are a must. The hotel runs a shuttle bus into Rome, which is efficient, but gets full, so some people were disappointed. It also drops off in central Rome, but a fair walk from the major sites.
Food was quite expensive in the hotel, but we tended to eat out so this wasn't a problem.
The instructions for driving to the hotel are not straight forward, so drive only if you have to. There are no signposts, so getting lost is easy.
Overall a lovely hotel, and we would definately go back.

I realize as a Diamond HHonors member, I may have been treated differently than other guests, but stayed again at this amazing hotel for the second time and this time was better than the first and I never thought that would be possible.

Despite arriving at 7:30 a.m., our room, upgraded to the Executive Floor was ready for us when we arrived. We were given a tour of all of the facilities and were able to enjoy breakfast in the BEST Club Lounge in any hotel I have ever stayed in.

Some nice touches -- the lounge is open 7am - 11pm and has free food, snacks, pastries, alcohol, juices and soft drinks at any time -- the business center on the executive lounge offers free Internet Access -- the Executive Club Floor allowed free access to a top-notch spa.

The Concierge staff was absolutely phenomenal -- they did not know the word "no" -- want to arrange a private tour of the Vatican Museum given by an art historian? No problem! Need help locating a shoe store that you have forgotten the name of and are only somewhat certain you know where it was located? -- Found! They were great.

The restaurants are excellent as well, and while the Pergola on the roof terrace is known as one of the best restaurants in all of Rome, the other restaurant on the lower level had some of the most attentive service of any restaurant I have eaten in. As far as we could tell there was a staff of four assigned to our table and my water glass was never less than 3/4 full, the sommelier offered many helpful suggestions and the wait staff were knowledgeable on all aspects of the menu and made very delicious recommendations.

All in all -- one of the best hotels in all of Europe.

We stayed in the Hilton Cavalieri, Rome, for two nights in the middle of October 2005. As we were there over a weekend, we got what was probably a reduced rate on one of the executive rooms (approx. €400/night). The rate may seem a little high, but in fact we had access to the Club Room on the Executive Floor, where complimentary food and drink are served from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., which was quite a big plus, so in the end I feel the value for money wasn’t bad.
The hotel is located on a hill (Monte Mario), about 10-20 minutes (depending on how far you are going) away from the sights in a car. We took taxis into the city, which cost between €10 and €20 depending on the time/traffic/day. However, we sometimes had to queue for a taxi (for as long as half-an-hour on Sunday) and it wasn’t easy to hail a taxi in the streets of Rome. There is also an hourly hotel shuttle bus to Piazza Barberini, but we didn’t use it. I say hourly, but in reality there was a three-hour (four-hour on Sundays) gap between 12.30 (11.30) and 15.30, perhaps for the driver to have lunch and/or a siesta. The last shuttle was early in the evening, meaning a compulsory taxi ride back (the hotel isn’t accessible by public transport). On balance, I liked staying slightly out of the centre – it was nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, as well as the traffic pollution, after a tiring day’s sightseeing. The hotel’s hilltop location means great views of Rome (from one side of the hotel). The hotel is quite ugly from the outside (though efforts have been made to disguise this with ivy), but quite grand on the inside (e.g. large tapestries on the walls of the lobby, mosaic floors outside). There is also a big swimming pool and a spa, although we didn’t have time to use them.
Our room was large and tastefully furnished, with a sofa and a writing desk. The balcony looked out over Rome. Rather than seeing the sun set from our room, we enjoyed some lovely sunrises. The marble bathroom was beautiful and quite large and the toiletries were by Hermès. The only problem with the bathroom was a rather unpleasant smell emanating from the toilet. I was surprised that the TV reception was very poor and the choice of channels was very limited (the hotel probably tries to encourage you to use pay-per-view). On the positive side, our room was serviced twice daily.
We only ate in the hotel’s Executive Club Room during our stay as it was the most convenient (only a minute from our room). We had breakfast there, which was incredibly good, and had a few snacks and drinks in between meals, again of very high quality. We didn’t eat in the hotel’s “La Pergola” restaurant, but it’s reportedly the fanciest in town with two Michelin stars. It is on the roof of the hotel and probably has a view over nearby St. Peter’s and the Vatican.
The staff at the front desk were accommodating, helpful and efficient, but the waitresses in the Club Room looked miserable and weren’t very friendly.
I really liked this hotel – it’s the best Hilton I have stayed in (though admittedly I haven’t stayed in that many).

If it was to value all the Hilton Hotels in Europe I would say that the Rome Cavalieri Hilton is the best and second follows the Athens Hilton. Last June we have booked an executive room for four nights at this hotel, part of our two weeks holidays in Rome, Capri and Sorrento. When we arrived as Gold VIP Honours members they upgraded our room to an executive plus, at the seventh floor. The room was large, elegant with spectacular views of the Eternal City and the Dome of St Peters. The executive lounge at our floor was one of the most spectacular in the world. The staff here were very friendly and helpfull. Complementary drinks and food were more than what we were expected. The Cavalieri on the executive floors and in all the public areas, is housing a large private antique collection of furniture, paintings, tapestries and statues. It also has two good restaurants. One of them La Pergola roof-garden restaurant with its breathtaking views is one of the finest in Rome. We loved it! We also had dinner at the Giardino dell'Uliveto restaurant, which in summer has a terrace next to the swimming pool with live music, creating a magical atmosphere. Every day after our visits to Rome we made use of the internal and external swimming pools. The internal pool has a very nice waterfall flowing into it. We used it few times but mainly we used the external large pool which is not heated but is very, very, nice to lay around and enjoy the sun with few drinks. As executive floor guests we didn't have to pay. When we left for Capri we have promised to ourselves that soon we shall come back to this spectacular Hotel!!!
