The location is accross the river from most Rome attractions but we found the location to be a great Get-A-Way after active days of tourism. The restaurants in the area are fabulous and the Reception Staff can provide great recomendations. They actually knew of an Organic Gelato store a few minutes from the hotel. (We rated it the best we... more

We stayed four nights at the Hotel Santa Maria to celebrate our honeymoon. The staff was friendly. The breakfast every morning was delicious as were the cappuccino's they made on request. The room was cozy and very clean with a perfect bathtub for soaking. It was tricky to find initially, but the waiters at the cafe around the corner seemed... more

Our stay was absolutely great: the kind receptionists told us everything we needed to know to get the most out of three days Rome. The atmosphere, coffee, breakfast, room and lovely garden did the rest. How busy is the city, how nice it is to 'come home' and relax for a while to be able to get back at it.... more

This is a very charming place to stay in a wonderful neighborhood in Rome. I previously stayed near the Spanish Steps and I like this area much better. It is a short cab ride to the Vatican and to Old Rome. The rooms are clean and simply furnished. The courtyard is a great way to start your day with a... more

Everything written by others is true. Very nice place but I would only recommend it for non-summer months. I would rate it higher except for the temperature factor, one that negatively impacted the hotel experience. That is, the air conditioning (AC) is centrally controlled and set at around 78-80 degrees. If you are used to cooling off by returning to... more

Hotel Santa Maria was a great place to stay in theTrastevere neighborhood in Rome. Residing, even if for only a few days, in the heart of old Rome with Chiesa di Santa Maria's bells ringing in the hour, made for an unforgettable trip. The staff of Santa Maria made our stay so comfortable. And, the breakfast each morning was quite... more

Our extended family of 5 (ages 59-10) thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hotel Santa Maria on our first trip to Rome. It was quite surprising to find how it is tucked away down an extremely quiet street in Trastevere, Rome. Amidst the hustle and bustle of the city, we LOVED our delicious breakfasts outside in the peaceful serenity of the... more

We were 5 women traveling together. We called it our "lost and found" tour! Each of us misplaced something of value on this trip. Two of us "lost" something at the Hotel Santa Maria. The staff here was so helpful to us and were not annoyed at our antics. It is a absolutely charming, quiet, peaceful get away from the... more

We stayed here in May 2009 based on nothing more than the reviews on Tripadvisor and once again I wasn't disappointed. As others have said this hotel is clean, quiet and well-located. The rooms aren't big but very nice and spotlesslessly clean. It appears that the place was either fairly recently renovated or very well upkept or both. The location... more

Location, location, location. In the heart of the Trastevere, close to everything but away from it all. This time we had a room in the back. So quiet that we almost missed one of the included breakfasts, which would have been a tradgedy given the quality of food and the unforgettable capuccinos. Once again we bought the three day Museum... more
