We didn’t get to see the Museums: bailed after about an hour in the queue, during which time we shuffled forward just a couple of metres. The photos speak for themselves. The Vatican should really start caring about its visitors - extend its opening hours and set up a booking service. Let’s face it: the trip from Australia is 17... more

On the way to the Sistine Chapel, check out the ancient sarchopoghi(burial vaults). This is probably the most extensive collection of sarchopoghi in the world. A must see! Mike more

We loved the Vatican We enjoyed the staff who act like your not there, understanable of course, we enjoyed the Canteen who tried to rip us off, we enjoyed the crowds and the little Italian guides who drag huge groups behind them. Most of all we loved the art, the stories, the history, the beauty and Pieta in St Peters. more

I had no idea what to expect when I first arrived at the Vatican Museums, besides the long line. Yes, the line was not pleasant (I recommend bringing an umbrella to block you from the sun) but it was worth it. The most amazing part is the beautiful ceilings, they are all like works of art. Actually, I hadn't even... more

After being bombarded in the square we reluctantly decided to take a tour of the Vatican and Basilica. I am very happy that I did because otherwise I wouldn't have known which way to go and would have missed out on so much. The tour made it much more worth while. I've been to many other musems and it wasn't... more

We loved Rome despite some rainy weather. The Vatican musuems are wonderful, but would strongly suggest a tour. It is so large and so much to see unless you have weeks to tour having a guide is wonderful. They provide you with the highlights and numerous interesting facts. I feel we would have missed so much without our tour guide.... more

I have been to Rome three times and on each visit have included a stop at the Vatican and its Museums. The reason is simply that the Vatican Museums contain some of the most complete collections of art and antiquities in the world. As an American it is so easy to go into art and history overload when visiting Europe.... more

Many visitors rush through this museum to see the Sistine Chapel and I think that is a shame because there are so many wonderful things to see. Read up on the collection before you go (there are some wonderful books and online resources on the subject) so that you have some background information to give you context and meaning to... more

I toured in November, 2007. I purchased a guided tour through Presto Tours. Was a little pricey at 55 euros but in the end it was some of my best spent dollars on my entire Italy vacation. My understanding is that the Vatican Museums were required to be opened up to the public in exchange for the Vatican's independence from... more

I have seen pictures and television programes about the Vatican but none of them do it justice. We had a very good tour guide from Icon Tours who brought it all alive for us. The guide is a must, if like us you dont know much about architecture and artists. Go through the museums first as you only need to... more
