This church is centrally located near Piazza Navona and well worth seeing. The three paintings are well described and the entire church is fantastically beautiful. A real bonus is that it is rarely crowded and a welcomed respite from the hussle of tourists in this area. We visited several times as we stayed nearby and came close on our walks... more

Don't miss this (somewhat) hidden treasure, especially if you are a fan of Caravaggio. But even those who know nothing about the man or his work, should take a few minutes to view these 3 incredible paintings dedicated to Saint Matthew the Evangelist that are grouped together at the last altar to the left of the Cathedral's main altar. We stumbled across this church dedicated to St. Louis, the French monarch, while waiting for the soccer game ticket vendor to open. The interior was very dark and there was a lot of scaffolding for conservation work. But tucked away in a side chapel at the left rear of the church are the 3 Caravaggio paintings! Exquisite! The trio of Caravaggio paintings are definitely worth seeing, the church is easy to find, just off the Piazza Navona right in the heart of the city...but it takes a bit of luck to actually find it OPEN! It was not until my third attempt on my third trip (having failed to find the doors unlocked on two previous trips)... more
