The Roman Forum exit leads to the pedestrian walk to the Colosseum. We didn’t encounter any gladiators or simply did not pay enough attention. We wait online for security – and indeed, asked twice of we wanted a tour, but left us alone after saying no – and get through within a few minutes. We get on line per the... more
While this is a must-see, it is somewhat smaller than expected. The view from the outside is impressive than from the inside. The arena is repetitive all around, so what you get from one end is the same as the other. Most of the walls are restorations, much of the steel rods and pins and rock boulders have been quarried... more
Went to see the Colosseum this afternoon with my mother. There is a lift for those who have difficulty walking. Although I have been there before many years ago, the grandeur still takes your breath away. €11 entry that evidently lasts two days, and using your imagination you can envisage the slaves and animals being kept below the floor level,... more
I went to Rome in Feb 2007 and was excited to see all of the historic sites. One that I couldn't wait to see was the Colosseum. Now fair enough it is a small bit run down but sure what do you expect it to be like after so long. The guided tour that we got was very interesting and... more
Rome is a city I've always wanted to visit - but inside Rome itself, there's just too many sites to take in. The Colosseum is one of those. You see it on TV and pictures all the time - but let me tell you, it will still take your breath away if you see it in person! You can even... more
I loved the Colosseum and it is a must see if you go to Rome I would definately recomend joining one of the tours that tout outside it saves you queing and I found the one that I joined really informative. It also looks lovely lit up at night so worth walking past when it is dark too!! more
After buying our tickets at the Palatine, we walked to the Colosseum, where we breezed past the long right-hand line for tickets, into the much shorter left-hand security line, for “tours”, “prepurchased tickets”, and “ticket holders” (that was us-- thanks, Rick Steves!). The Colosseum was fascinating, definitely a must-see. The exterior was in some ways more interesting than the interior.... more
The last time I was in Rome (May 2005) one of the additional sights "not to be missed" was the modern day Gladiators, beautifully dressed and equipped and ever ready to pose with visitors for the requisite fee. more
Join one of the tour groups outside for 10 euro. This place was every bit as incredible as I thought it would be. more
