I was walking by the Colosseum, about to get inside and this guy started to talk to me, offering me a tour of the whole area, saying he is student. In the very beginning i was kind of skeptical but then it turned out to be one of the best experiences i've ever had in Rome. This guy Glen took... more

Went to the colosseum not on an organized tour. Guides abound in front of the place and many have official looking credential tags around their necks. They offer a "package deal " of the colosseum and the forum all for a little more than the price of admission to only one of the attractions. Beware!!! The second guide never shows... more

The Colosseum is obviously a must when visiting Italy. The ticket (in June 09) is 12 euros per person which also gives you entry to Palatino in the Roman Forum. Buy the ticket at Palatino where there is no queue, the queues are terrible at the Colosseum. The forum is free, but it is very interesting visiting teh Palatino. In... more

We arrived at the Colosseum 5 minutes before opening and the lines were already rather long. After going through the mandatory security check, we used our Roma Pass to bypass the line which we felt was very convenient. We listened to the Rick Steves' audio tour (http://www.ricksteves.com/news/travelnews/0602/italy_downloads.htm) and while it was informative we felt it was a bit corny. Overall... more

The Colosseum is certainly a landmark of Rome. Entrance costs €12 (inclusive of Foro Romano and Palatine Hill). I visited it on the 2nd Sunday in May 2009 and surprisingly, the queues were not long (max 5 minutes) in the morning (9am) and late afternoon (3pm). The audio guide costs €4.50. I would recommend you to bring earphones along so... more

1) Licensed tour guides with clearly-displayed badges will give you an informative and interesting tour. You will bypass the line entirely, not waiting more than it takes to round up 10 or so people. I highly suggest going on a tour rather than staring into a guidebook because you can soak up your surroundings while appreciating its significance. 2) Steer... more

The Colosseum has been there for over a thousand years, so I guess there's nothing new for me to say here. Whether you'll enjoy it or not, depends a lot on your expectations. For myself, I would say that I expected to be awed, and wasn't. It is definetly a must-see in Rome though, so no matter what you have... more

For a site to see, it is worth the visit. The tips I can give is: Get an audio guide verse a Video guide. My reasons being is that the video guide they give you re-used ear buds, and you do not know if they have been cleaned as they are not sani packaged. The volume is adjustable but it... more

This is definately one for the Bucket List! Our Costa Concordia cruise ship arrived back in Rome during February 2008. Their bus took us to the airport & fortunately we had a room at the Airport Hilton. Hilton has a free shuttle bus into Rome that we took for our only afternoon in the city. We got off & bought... more

We only had to queue for about half an hour. would advise any one going that entrance is free for Europeans under 18 and over 65, BUT you have to take ID (passport). we didn't know this and had to pay for two teenagers, but it was still worth it. Fantastic experience for everyone. more
