Hi, I live about 500 feet from the fountain, on Via del Lavatore. When my family bought the apartment in the early 80s this was one of the most beautiful and romantic spots in Rome. Mass tourism combined with greedy shopkeepers and a careless local govenment have probably ruined the place forever. All the roads that lead to the fountain... more

It's crowded with tourists, obnoxious junk peddlers, and surrounded by overpriced cafes and restaurants, but we enjoyed the Trevi and went back several times (it's right in the middle of the city so you can walk by often if you choose). Be sure to toss a coin over your shoulder - it guarantees your future return to Roma. (We used... more

You can't go to Rome without tossing a coin over your shoulder into the Trevi Fountain, it's tradition! Yes, it is crowded but it's pretty near the Pantheon and the Spanish Steps, so it's an easy stop. Also, there's some cheap souvenior shops near by. more

It fascinates me how much people obsess over this fountain. Don't get me wrong, it 's a great historical fountain with a complex aqueduct feeding it, but let's be honest, it's not the Coloseum or the Forum. Yes, it is crowded there ... but not overwhelming, We went in the middle of the day, and there was plenty of elbow... more

The trevi fountain for me, was by far the most outstanding sight in Rome. It is located down a side street near Barberini and is best to get and see it on a night if you can. It was a great way to end my trip to Rome and nothing else compares to it. more

Viewed in November, 2007. There are always going to be crowds around it so be patient. It can be chaotic. I was able to view at night and go back later the next day to also see in sunlight. I'd recommend seeing during both times to see its true beauty. Legend has it if you throw a coin into the... more

My family and I stayed in a 3 star hotel near the train station and took a taxi to the Trevi. It is beautiful! I only wish I would have taken the time to see it at night with all the lights going. We arrived early in the morning after a light rain shower, so there much fewer tourists than... more

The Trevi Fountain is a beautiful spot, but it is absolutely crazy!During the day,it can be a bit of an effort to get near enough to the water to throw in your coin, as the place is just jammed with people. It's a must-see on any Roman trip, but like one other poster said, watch your bag and camera! more
